If you have ever needed to visit a client or demonstrate your model out of the office, you may have found that things don't quite work as planned when you get to the meeting and open up your Revit Model. Some of the issues you might face are: Missing Links, Performance issues, Permission issues. To take a model off the network requires a few simple steps of preparation and testing. Make sure you test it on the laptop ‘off the network’ before going to your meeting so there are no surprises! Here’s the process:
Login to the laptop and load up Revit. In 2009 Borrow a licence by going to Help > Product and License Information > and click Borrow. In 2010 Borrow a licence by clicking the Revit icon (top left) > Licensing > and click Borrow License. Open the file from the server and if it’s a central file you will need to click ‘Detach from central’ before opening it otherwise you will not be able to do much with it when you out of the office. Once open, save it to your local drive and it will create its self as a new central file. Now try closing it down, logging off, disconnect the network cable and logon again > Load Revit and then load the file. If it works your ready to go. To increase performance try purging any unused elements out of the new copy of the model and delete elements which are not relevant to its proposed use on the laptop. Make sure any Linked files have either been bound, copied to the local drive or detached depending on if they are required or not. |
